Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPCA) New 2014 Taxes and Fees

Reinsurance Fee and Health Insurer Fees are being imposed as of January 1, 2014 as part of the new Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPCA). These fees are being put in place as a means of funding the new exchanges. Because the Georgia Health Plan Trust is a self-funded plan, GHPT is not subject to the 2nd fee of the Health Insurer Fee (HIT). This is one of the many benefits the GHPT as a self-funded plan offers its members in helping them control healthcare costs.
